We greatly appreciate our volunteers. Our volunteers help in many ways.
Contests – Our in-person MathRocks! contests wouldn’t be possible without our volunteers. We have moved these online this year due to COVID. The individual rounds will be proctored by an adult in the room with the participant and scoring will be automatic; HOWEVER, we need volunteers to proctor our Team rounds. If you are available for 30-35 minutes between 9am when the contest window opens and noon the next day, sign up for a time to proctor. Teams will sign up for an available time (parents cannot proctor their child’s team) and use Zoom to observe and listen to the students work.
Special Events Committee – Our Special Events Committee plans and runs our End of Year Awards Dinner, our fundraisers, volunteer appreciation, and more. They are a HUGE part of our success as an organization. If you enjoy planning, promotion, organizing, obtaining silent auction items, reaching out to potential sponsors, and raising money, join us on this key committee!
Homework Help (aka math homework tutoring) – We are trying a new program this year to help our community navigate the challenges of online math class. Our Competition Team members take the lead on this but their schedules are not always conducive to a consistent schedule for those seeking help. If you enjoy math, have graduated high school, and would like to help kids in grades 1-12 have a successful math learning year, we would love to have your help!
Competition Team Assistant Coach – With our practices online this year, help with practices is needed. Ideally, Assistant Coaches have experience with competition math or are willing to learn as they go (which means enjoy learning new and challenging things; willing to learn from the kids). You must enjoy math, must enjoy kids, and must be patient. Must be able to successfully pass a background check.
Marketing & Public Relations – Are you interested in creating flyers, writing press releases, contacting media outlets, contacting schools/teachers, or social media? If any of that is of interest (or anything I forgot but would fall nicely here), we can definitely use your help!
Administrative Support – If you are more of a behind the scenes person and able to type from home (at least for this semester), there are a number of items that need tracking (Competition Team paperwork, volunteer hours, and tracking for year end awards, etc.), monthly contest award labels and announcements to be typed up, and various items that come up week to week.
Board of Directors – If you are interested in joining our board of directors, we ask that you first spend some time being involved in our organization. Being involved will let you get to know us and let us get to know you. Knowing what you will add to the board is a big piece of being successful.
